Title Floodgates
Description At this point on the river Oldknow built a weir. From above the weir water could be diverted to the mill ponds as required. The water was controlled by "Floodgates" and a cottage was built for the man in charge. After the Mill was burnt down the cottage remained and in the early 20th century it became a popular "tearoom". This postcard shows people in Edwardian dress walking past. The Marple to New Mills railway line passes over the viaduct at the top of the picture
